What type of laser is used at the Aesthetic Day Surgery?

At ADS Laser Hair Removal, we use LightSheer Diode laser, the latest technology in laser hair removal to date, suitable for all skin types.

How does the laser work?

The laser produces a beam of highly once treated light, which is absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicle. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second just long enough to damage the hair follicle without causing damage to the surrounding skin. The result is safe and effective hair removal.

Is it safe?

Done properly by a trained laser operator laser treatment is effective and safe. The ADS laser hair removal treatments are performed on the premises of the aesthetic day surgery by a registered nurse with extensive training in the use of the Lightsheer Diode laser. Medical assistance is easily accessible at these premises.

Is it painful?

Clients describe the experience varying from a tingling sensation to a sensation not unlike 'the flick of an elastic band against your skin'. Most clients tolerate the procedure well. As the laser intensity is increased for more effective hair removal, it may become more uncomfortable. Cooling pads are used to minimise any discomfort. Topical anaesthetic cream is available.

Is it permanent?

Of all the methods available to date, this laser if the most effective at permanent to long term hair removal. It is most successful on darker or course hair.

Is Laser Hair Removal suitable for all skin types??

The Lightsheer Diode laser is suitable for all skin types.

How many treatments will I need?

The laser is effective on hair follicles that are in the active growth phase. Only a percentage of hair follicles are in the growth phase at any one time. For this reason, several treatments are required at approximately six weeks apart. On average 3-6 treatments are required for optimal results.

What can you expect following your treatment?

The appearance of the treated area immediately after a laser session will vary form client to client, depending on the extent of treatment, energy setting of the laser machine and your skin type It is normal to experience some redness and some mild swelling which disappears in a short time. Most people return to normal activity immediately.

How long does each session take?

Most areas can be treated in 20-60 minutes. However , large body areas such as legs or backs may take up to 90 minutes or several treatments.

What areas can be treated?

Most areas of excessive hair growth, such as face, upper lip, chin, under arms, arms, legs, bikini line, chest, back, shoulders and abdomen. You may wish to discuss other treatment areas with the nurse.

How much will it cost?

During your initial consultation, the area or areas you wish to have treated will be assessed and you will be given an exact costing. Costings are based on regions treated and the treatment time, although a guideline is available. You will find laser hair removal cost effective compared to other methods such as waxing or electrolysis. Results are seen much more quickly and are more permanent.
