Choosing
a Plastic Surgeon
Choosing
the right plastic surgeon is perhaps the most important part of
any procedure that you are considering. How do you find a qualified
Plastic Surgeon? Most people are not aware that anyone with a medical
degree can call himself or herself a cosmetic surgeon, advertise
those services and perform them. Many medical practitioners (such
as GP's, Dermatologists, General Surgeons) call themselves a Cosmetic
Surgeon, if they happen to practice this type of work.
To
ensure your surgeon of choice has the necessary plastic surgery
qualifications and experience consider the following:
Is
your surgeon a certified Plastic Surgeon registered with the Australian
Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS)?
If
your physician indicates they are a member of a society of plastic
surgeons, be sure that it is the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Members of the ASPS are highly trained Specialists, who have spent
a least eight (8) to ten (10) years in post graduate surgical training.
You can verify if your surgeon is a member by visiting the ASPS
website.
Ask
if your surgeon is a Fellow with the Royal Australasian College
of Surgeons (F.R.A.C.S.).
In
Australia, only F.R.A.C.S. members are considered qualified to do
invasive cosmetic surgical procedures. The F.R.A.C.S. qualification
is the standard used for appointment to public hospitals and is
usually required to be credentialled to perform surgery in private
hospitals.
All
surgeons practicing at the Aesthetic Day Surgery are both members
of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and Fellows of the
Royal Australian College of Surgeons. These certifications, when
coupled with the extensive experience of Aesthetic Day Surgery surgeons,
ensures the best possible patient care and results possible.
